JS SAZANAMI #113 (さざなみ) JMSDF Takanami Class Destroyer JS SAZANAMI #113 (さざなみ) JS SAZANAMI sailed thru the Kanmon Straits of Japan the afternoon of October 20, 2024. It was a pleasant sight to see. And, from the looks of it, the Sazanami's crew were enjoying the sights of Garden Paradise Kitakyushu and maybe even glancing a bit at the inferior Shimonoseki City side of the strait, as well.   DD-113 護衛艦 さざなみ ★ 海上自衛隊 ★ たかなみ型護衛艦 Did you know the Japanese Navy eats curry rice on Fridays?  Well, they do.   Japanese taxpayer money well spent - The JMSDF's Destroyer SAZANAMI Here is some more info. on this warship. ***SPECS (sourced from Wikipedia)*** Name:  Sazanami  (さざなみ) Ordered: 2000 Builder: Mitsubishi, Nagasaki Laid down: 4 April 2002 Launched: 29 August 2003 Commissioned: 16 February 2005 Home Port:      Kure MMSI Number: 431999679 Pennant Number: DD-113 Class & Type: Takanami-class destroyer Displacement: 4,650 long ...

DL LOTUS - LPG Tanker in the Kanmon Straits

LPG tankers often provide a welcome and bright color splash on the backdrop of the polluted Kitakyushu skies. The Korean vessel DL LOTUS is one such ship. DL LOTUS and Kanmon Buoy #24 - Matching Color Schemes! Can you spot the two crew members in blue clothing and yellow hardhats? They were either working, or just taking in the sights of the Garden Paradise Kitakyushu as their ship DL Lotus sailed past on the Kanmon Strait. NSU VOYAGER

The Pride of Garden Paradise Kitakyushu should be the name of the bulk carrier NSU Voyager. This 300 meter long 50 meter wide vessel has 北九州 and KITAKYUSHU painted proudly on its stern. Very cool. NSU VOYAGER sailing towards Garden Paradise Kitakyushu A politician wannabe idiot was creating a cacophony in Moji when the ship sailed thru the Kanmon Strait. Despite his campaign's incessant noise, NSU Voyager was the epitome of tranquility and smooth sailing. Oh, by the way, the idiot's campaign sailed smoothly into a landslide loss. Yay!  Here is some video of the ship (there will be some noise from the campaign --- consider it a bonus track!): Vessel Name: NSU VOYAGER Length: 299.95 meters Width: 50 meters IMO: 9790880 Flag: Japan Port of Registry: Kitakyushu MMSI: 431491000 Type: Bulk Carrier Call Sign: 7JZQ Gross Tonnage: 107829 tons Year Built: 2017 (平成29年) Owner: NS Uni...

SITC KAOHSIUNG container ship

For those who often see ships pass thru Japan's Kanmon Straits, the SITC Container Lines ships are a common sight. Sissies, sickos, ship spotters, hell, even pretend musicians who have walked along the strait are bound to have seen an SITC container carrier go by. Ship Freakazoid has seen his fair share of sissies, sickos, ship spotters, pretend musicians and SITC container ships. Here are some photographs and video of SITC Kaohsiung taken in October 2024. SITC KAOHSIUNG & Kanmon Buoy #24 SITC Kaohsiung was built built by Hangzhou Dongfeng Shipbuilding. This container carrier has engines made by Hitachi Zosen Corp. Ariake Works and a boiler made by Miura Protec. Can you tell by looking at it? WAKO ・ わこう Coastal Car Carrier 内航自動車運搬船

WAKO is the 100th Entry!!! Yay!!! While this RoRo coastal car carrier has been seen sailing thru the Kanmon Straits many times, it is the first time to photograph it. Seeing the HONDA logo on the side brings The Beach Boys song 'Little Honda' to mind.  WAKO わこう 内航自動車運搬船 Wako's home port is Fukuoka and the car carrier appears to exclusively transport autos to and from Japanese ports like Yokkaichi, Funabashi, etc. One can't help but wonder what models of HONDA vehicles it is carrying. Please let me wonder while I listen to Little Honda and pick up some good vibrations. Musical ship spotting. Built by Shinkochi Heavy Industries in 2016, Wako has a loading capacity of 508 cars. Stealing the ship when it is fully loaded would be more efficient than stealing 508 cars individually. Plus, the keys would probably be in the cars. Somehow, this occurring seems highly unlikely. Japan is very safety. Wako is a Japanese RoRo car carrier for Honda - Kanmon Strait 2024   Vessel Name: ...

OLKHON ro-ro cargo ship

A charming vessel sailing under Sierra Leone's flag, OLKHON, recently passed thru the Kanmon Straits of Japan. Ro-Ro Cargo Ship OLKHON travels between Russia and Japan There is something charming about this ship. Maybe it is its shape. Perhaps it is the rust. Olkhon has a Russian sound to it, so did a quick check, and: In Russian, "Olkhon" (Ольхон) is derived from the Evenki language and is thought to mean "the place of the idols" or "the place of the spirits." It is the name of the largest island on Lake Baikal in Siberia, which holds significant cultural and spiritual importance for the local Buryat people. Vessel Name: OLKHON (aka MV OLKHON)  Length: 114.5 meters  Width: 20 meters  IMO: 9031791  Flag: Sierra Leone (Port of Registry: Freetown)  MMSI: 687001269  Type: Ro-Ro  Call Sign: 9LU2072  Deadweight: 3,693 tons  Year Built: 1992 A.D.  Builder: Kitanihon Shipbui...

SAKURA FORTUNE bulk carrier

Sakura Fortune, a bulk carrier built in 2021, recently sailed the Kanmon Straits. Sakura Fortune (IMO 9881172 / MMSI 355496000) This relatively new vessel was captured on digital "film" in photographs and video footage for your viewing pleasure. For video, an old secondhand JVC Everio GZ-E265-N (Konica Minolta 54x lens) and used Slik tripod were used. Photos were taken using Ship Freakazoid's body and a well used but never abused (intentionally) Olympus E-520 DSLR camera with Zuiko 150mm lens.  Vessel Name: SAKURA FORTUNE  Length: 182.87 meters  Width: 31.00 meters  IMO: 9881172  Flag: Panama (sung in David Lee Roth's voice)  MMSI: 355496000  Type: Bulk Carrier  Call Sign: H8YS  Gross Tonnage: 35010 tons  Year Built: 2021 A.D. As far as bulk carriers that pass thru the Kanmon Strait go, Sakura Fortune looks to be pretty well maintained and is a pleasant sight. Sakura Fortune ge...

Nippon Maru にっぽん丸

It was a full moon over Garden Paradise Kitakyushu when the famed Japanese cruise ship NIPPON MARU sailed thru the Kanmon Straits of Japan on the night of October 17, 2024.  And, once in a blue moon, a picture that did not turn out as expected actually turns out to be better than could have been expected. This is one such photograph: The photo is asking a lot of questions! Nippon Maru at night. The photograph is basically asking the viewer "What is this?" and then "OK, but WHAT ship?" It's kind of cool how the lights look like question marks. None of the photos taken turned out well. This was the best of the bunch. Really need to get another tripod and prep better for night shooting.   However, the video turned out OK considering a used old model JVC Everio video camera was used. The Slik tripod helped as much as it could but relatively strong wind was a factor. Not bad for spur of the moment, minimal preparation, and first time night filming. Vessel Name: NIPPO...
